Factoring - Rate Con and BOL's not matching?

This happened to a Carrier I was working with about a week ago... The Truck was given a load that was a 1 Pickup 3 Stop, but during the course of the load, the load was changed to 2 Stops. The Driver was at stop # 1 and the Broker called the Carrier and said "the 3rd stop facility didn't need the product and to just offload the remaining pallets at the 2nd stop so after that delivery the load is completed." Now the red flag that the Carrier missed with this was that this was said over the phone and wasn't put into writing. Moreover, the Broker didn't send the Carrier an updated Rate Con with the change from the original 3 Stop to 2 Stops.
Well, when the Carrier finished unloading at Stop #2, which by the way was at the end of the month and on a Friday afternoon, the Truck sent the paperwork over to his Factoring Company to get paid out before the weekend started. This is pretty standard and most Carriers will run 2 to 4 loads over the course of a week and save them to submit to the Freight Factoring Company on Friday (it's a way to save some money on ACH fees the Freight Factor charges). Carriers typically do this to get paid out by the Factor on Friday so they can pay the Driver for the week's work, and pay any other bills that need to be paid over that weekend to keep the Trucking Company's operation moving.
This Carrier I'm talking about sent over the load with the original paperwork, A.K.A. the Rate Con, showing 3 Stops, and POD/BOL's showing 2 Stops. The paperwork didn't match. So, from the perspective of the Freight Factor, this looks like the Carrier didn't complete the job. It looks like there is 1 more Stop needed before the load can be marked as completed. Why? Because the Carrier never asked the Broker to send him over an updated Rate Con showing the load was changed from 3 Stops to 2 Stops. Now its the end of the day and the Carrier is trying to get the Broker on the phone to get the updated Rate Con showing the change, but it's Friday during magic hour, the last 3 business hours of the week, and that Broker isn't going to care about your updated your Rate Con because he's still trying to cover more loads for his customers before the end of the day. The Broker does not care about your situation nor about you getting paid out this Friday. You delivered the load and the Broker has already informed the customer that the load has been delivered, and something like updating a Rate Con isn't a priority to the Broker during end-of-day operating hours on Friday at the end of the week/month. The Broker will update that Rate Con on Monday or Tuesday and the Carrier will then have to resubmit the load's paperwork to the Freight Factor the following week. 9 times out of 10, this is exactly how this plays out.
Ultimately, to avoid running into issues like this, as a Carrier you need to remember and make a rule for yourself that you'll never do what the Broker tells you to do until the Rate Con is updated, or until you have an email specifically from the Broker saying the load has been altered or changed. I once worked for a Freight Factor so I know better than most: I've seen a lot of scenarios where Carriers will try to use screenshots of text messages with the Broker to show to the Freight Factoring Company to prove the load was changed. However, a text message does not count as a legal document for payment processing purposes. Or, the Carrier will simply tell the Freight Factor, "Well, the Broker called me and told me over the phone the load was changed from 3 Stops to 2 Stops" and that won't work either. The Freight Factor is buying your paperwork so ALL paperwork (Rate Con, BOL, POD) must all match 100% for the Freight Factor to buy that load from you.
So, don't be like the Carrier in this story. If the Broker changes the load and calls you or texts you to inform you about the change you need to politely say "10-4 confirmed, I understand the change, but before I do what you need me to do I need you to send me an updated Rate Con reflecting the changes that have been made to this load. Once I have the updated Rate Con I have no problem getting the load completed. I'll be watching my email waiting for your updated Rate Con." That's how you need to handle these types of situations.
